🌿 Products & Ingredients
African Black Soap — known as ose dudu in Yoruba or alata simpo in Ghana — is a traditional cleanser made from plant ash, shea butter, palm kernel oil and coconut oil. It has been used for centuries across West Africa to treat acne, eczema, dry skin and rashes. All Inkuto black soap is produced by women's cooperatives in Ghana using the same hand-crafted methods passed down through generations.
Yes. Our products are made from 100% natural ingredients with no synthetic chemicals, artificial fragrances or parabens. African Black Soap was traditionally used to wash newborn babies in Ghana — it is safe and gentle for all skin types. If you have a known allergy to any ingredient, please check the full ingredient list on each product page. When trying a new product, we recommend patch testing on a small area of skin first.
All Inkuto products are cruelty-free — we never test on animals. The majority of our products are also vegan. Shea butter is plant-derived (from the shea tree, Vitellaria paradoxa) and is suitable for vegans. If you have specific questions about a product, please contact us at info@inkuto.com.
All Inkuto products are handmade in small batches at our production facility in Herttoniemi, Helsinki. We do not use mass manufacturing — each batch is made with care and quality in mind. Our key raw ingredients — African Black Soap and Shea Butter — are produced by women's cooperatives in Ghana and imported through fair-trade partnerships.
Yes. As with all natural cosmetics, our products have a Period After Opening (PAO) symbol on the packaging. We recommend using the soap within 12 months of opening. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Because we do not use synthetic preservatives, natural products may change in scent or texture over time — this is normal and does not indicate the product is unsafe.
📦 Shipping & Delivery
Yes, we ship worldwide. Orders within Finland are delivered by Posti and typically arrive within 1–2 business days after dispatch. European orders usually take 4–10 business days. International orders outside Europe may take longer depending on the destination and local customs. If your country is not available at checkout, please contact us and we will do our best to help.
Yes! We offer free shipping within Finland on all orders over €50. For orders under €50, a standard shipping fee applies. Shipping rates for international orders are calculated at checkout based on your location and the weight of your order.
Because all our products are handmade in small batches, dispatch times depend on stock availability. In-stock items are dispatched within 3 business days. If we need to prepare a new batch, dispatch may take up to one week. You will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking information once your order has been dispatched.
💳 Orders & Payments
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Visa Debit, Visa Electron and all major credit and debit cards. Finnish customers can also pay via online bank transfer through Paytrail (Osuuspankki, Nordea, Danske Bank, Aktia, S-Pankki, Säästöpankki, Handelsbanken, Ålandsbanken and others), as well as MobilePay and Pivo. International customers can pay via PayPal.
Cancellations can be made before your order has been dispatched. Please contact us as quickly as possible at info@inkuto.com or call +358 (0)407 515 178. Once an order has been dispatched, it cannot be cancelled. Note that a small handling fee may apply to cancellations not caused by an error on our part.
Under Finnish consumer law, you have the right to return unopened products within 14 business days of receiving them. Products may also be returned if they are defective or have been tampered with. We cannot accept returns of opened cosmetic products (unless faulty) for hygiene reasons. To start a return, please contact us at info@inkuto.com with your order number and reason.
🌍 Ethics & Sustainability
Our hero ingredients — African Black Soap and Shea Butter — are produced by women's cooperatives in Ghana, including widows and women from vulnerable communities, who receive fair compensation for their work. This enables them to support their families and provide education for their children. Since 2022, at least 10% of Inkuto's profits are dedicated to building an inclusive production facility in southern Ghana for people with disabilities. We know our producers personally — these are real relationships, not anonymous supply chains.
Inkuto operates on fair-trade principles throughout our supply chain — paying fair prices directly to producers and maintaining personal, transparent relationships with the communities we work with. Our founder Edem has visited and knows the producers personally. While we are a small independent brand and not registered with a formal certification body, our commitment to ethical sourcing is central to everything we do and is reflected in our pricing and business model.
We are committed to minimising our environmental impact and continuously working to improve our packaging. We avoid unnecessary plastic and use recyclable materials wherever possible. If you have specific questions about the packaging of a particular product, please reach out to us at info@inkuto.com.
